Rainbow Rant
Have you seen the clip of the screaming match between Rosie and Elisabeth from ‘The View’ this morning? Wow.
I am writing this as a completely out lesbian: Rosie needs to be gagged. Immediately. In my opinion, she hurts gay people more than helps them. Every time she opens her mouth, I cringe and pray that none of my family, friends, or coworkers think she speaks for all gay people, especially gay women.
Have you ever noticed how Rosie loves to go after the low-hanging fruit, like Elisabeth Hasselbeck? I’ve always found it interesting that Rosie has no criticism of African American people or Jewish people. Apparently these groups of people are incapable of any kind of prejudice against gay people, so it’s not politically correct to criticize them in any way. However, calling out people for being Christian and non-liberal is fair game. Way to challenge yourself there, Rosie. Her arguments stem from emotion rather than reason, which means her “arguments” instantly turn into personal attacks. And personal attacks are really an admission of defeat in an argument. Personal attacks mean you have no reasons, just excuses. Very lame and, might I add, lazy.
Rosie is a really good example of why so many people have no love for the Homos. She pulls the gay card whenever someone White, Christian, and non-liberal challenges her opinions. She is the Al Sharpton of gay people, minus the velour Puma track suits. She speaks only for herself, not for the people she claims to represent. There are so many people out there who don’t know any gay people in real life. Their only exposure may be what they see on TV. Is it any wonder why a lot of people aren’t all excited about gay marriage?
Gay Pride?? Celebrate diversity?? Yeah right. Rosie is yet another fine representation of a gay person demanding tolerance and acceptance, yet not granting it to others who have values and opinions differing from her own. I’m no diplomat or anything, but I’m pretty sure this won’t win any allies. The snickering at and mocking of conventional Christian White people isn’t going to help anything along. Nearly all of my family members and most of my friends are White, Heterosexual, and Christian. I have to say that these people have been way more accepting of me than the gay community has. And like a good number of my gay brothers and sisters waving the rainbow flag of diversity, I have a pretty good feeling Rosie wouldn’t know what to do with someone like me.
Whatever.

I completely agree with the person who penned “Rainbow Rant”, above. Rosie is waaaay out of line and should be harnassed. Her fame has given her too much power and I fine her a wacko and a loud bore. Notice I do not call her a wacko lesbo - she just a person who needs some anger meds, asap. Elisabeth has been more than respectful to Rosie. Rosie should be responsible for what SHE says and need not be defended by anyone.

I love you. Thanks for saying everything I think (except for the me being gay part - you do that WAY better than me and I LOVE you for it.)
This is what makes you hot.
And Rosie? ummmm not so much. It only takes one onion to spoil the bunch.
I only saw the clip reel high lights of this fight, but I have to give it to Elizabeth. Nobody discounts a cute, skinny, Republican, Christian like me, but she held her own and did not deserve to be berated like that without recourse.
Rosie gives everyone she associates with a bad name. Whether they’re lesbians or liberals. She’s a far out there as Falwell (may he rest in dirt).

I agree that Rosie can get out of control. I did not see this particular fight. I like that she isn’t afraid to speak her mind, but she may need a few lessons from miss manners.
I thought it was very interesting when Barbara Walters was on Ellen’s talk show and Ellen said that she liked Rosie and all, but that she didn’t agree with the way she went about doing things or agree with a lot that she said. Go Ellen! There’s another out lesbo that feels the same and she’s in the spotlight.
Go AH!

I think it’s weird Elizabeth is a represent of the Christian Right and now that she’s pregnant she seems to be wearing more revealing clothing. Like ‘Look at the supple breasts ready to feed my Christian Children’. Yesterday was no exception. She somehow found my preschool parachute that we used to play mushroom with and run underneath while it came down on us.

What’s that old saying? It’s better to keep quiet and let people wonder if you’re a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt?
Something like that…. I guess no one’s ever told Rosie that one.

I, too, cringe when Rosie speaks. My mother is a very conservative woman. Her exposure to the gay community is whatever network television spoonfeeds her and whatever I can do to counteract that. Unfortunately, my mother does think that Rosie represents most lesbians. No amount of rational contradiction from me is going to fix that and it’s a damned shame.
Great post. I particularly loved the part about Rosie being the Al Sharpton of gay people.

I just found your blog, Anger Hangover, and I am loving it.
As for Rosie, she lost me when she went after Kelly Ripa for complaining about Clay Aiken putting his hand over her mouth. Rosie said Kelly’s comment of “I don’t know where that hand has been” was homophobic. But Clay has never said he’s gay.
